Deputy Minority Chief Whip calls for reflection on Ghana’s progress

The Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency in the Bono Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress and Deputy Minority Chief Whip in Ghana’s Parliament, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has called on Ghanaians to reflect on the progress the nation has made in terms of democracy.

The call for introspection comes as Ghana celebrates 30 years of uninterrupted Parliamentary democracy under the Fourth Republic, a fate Hon. Ibrahim believes is  a testament to the resilience and determination of the Ghanaian people.

According to Hon. Ibrahim, this self-reflection is crucial in order to build upon the successes and overcome the obstacles that lie ahead. He made is disclosure during an open forum in Techiman, the Bono East regional capital as part of Parliaments 30th anniversary ceremony.

“The essence of today’s forum is to let Ghanaians appreciate that 30 years of uninterrupted Parliamentary democracy that we are enjoying, 30 years without a break, how did we do it, how did we get here, we need to take a stock of the difficulties and the successes so that we strengthen the successes and make sure that we are able to continue.

“Thirty years of uninterrupted democracy is a very big achievement, it is a testament to our strength and perseverance as a nation. However, we must not become complacent in our successes. We must continue to work together, to learn from our mistakes, and to strive for a better future.” He said

By reflecting on both the difficulties and successes, Hon. Ibrahim hopes that Ghanaians will be able to identify areas where improvements can be made and take the necessary steps to address these issues. This, he believes, will enable the country to continue its progress and achieve even greater heights in the years to come.

The Banda Member of Parliament, further disclosed that, Ghana is the only country in the West Africa sub region that can boost of such achievement and the country is lucky to have a living legend of the Fourth Republican dispensation as the Speaker of Parliament to lead in the celebrations.

“In the West African Sub-region, there is no country that has attain this status, and I am happy today that we are celebrating today with one of the living legends of the Fourth Republican dispensation, and that is the Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.

“Out of the 200 legislators who started the Fourth Republican Legislation, he is the sole survivor who was able to take through from the 1st Parliament, 2nd Parliament, 3rd Parliament, 4th Parliament, 5th Parliament, 6th Parliament, 7th Parliament and the 8th Parliament.

“We may not be doing a great service to this country, if such a personality doesn’t  take the lead in leading Ghanaians to celebrate that 30 years uninterrupted Parliamentary democracy.” He explained
