I will cancel payment of utility bills, fuel, and ex-gratia – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has promised to cancel payment of utility bills, fuel, and ex-gratia when elected as the president of Ghana again.

This, according to the former president, will reduce the government expenditure and implement policies that will bring relief to the citizens.

He also assured to rein in a bloated government which consumes a lot of money needed for developmental projects and replace it with a much leaner one to enhance development in the country.

“We will also rein in the phenomenon of bloated government and replace it with a much leaner one. Attendant governance costs, like payment of utility bills, fuel, and ex-gratia payments, will be cancelled.” He wrote on his social media.

Mr. Mahama has vowed to unseat the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the 2024 general elections.

The NDC flagbearer believes bad governance and bloated government are the major reasons Ghanaians are suffering.

He added that if Ghanaians give the NDC mandate in the December 7 polls, the next NDC administration will reduce the excessive politicisation of instutions in Ghana such as the Judiciary, the Electoral Commission (EC) and others through major constitutional reforms so that it can be effective in discharging their duties.

I will curtail the excessive politicisation of our institutions—the Judiciary, the electoral commission, and other independent constitutional bodies—through major constitutional reforms.

Ghana will witness what the political actors have described as a crucial election come December 7.

If the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) wins the elections, it would be a historic event in the 4th Republic of Ghana.

The governing parties usually spend 8-years in office but the NPP is determined to break the 8.

Meanwhile, the NDC says it will be a disaster if the NPP retains power again looking at the current economic crisis.
