The running mate to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has been enskinned as “Pognaa Piirima” (Mother of the Rocks) by the Paramount Chief and the people of Sankana in the Upper West Region.

According to the Leaders of Sankana, the title is a recognition of the many years of collaboration and friendship she has shared with the community.

Prof. Naana Jane was also conferred an honorary membership of the Sankana Traditional Council.

“I have been honored with the title of “Pognaa Piirima: Mother of the Rocks” by the Paramount Chief and the people of Sankana. This title is a recognition of the many years of collaboration and friendship I have shared with this community. I do not take up this honor lightly, as it carries a profound responsibility to the region.” The former Minister of Education said.

The enskinment occured on Saturday, June 15, 2024 after the Paramount Chief and the Traditional Council invited her to participate in this year’s Kalibi Tigri, an important festival.

“The Paramount Chief of the Sankana Traditional area and Sankana Traditional Council are happy to invite you to this year’s Kalibi Tigri. The celebrations will take place on June 15, 2024 at Sankana.” The invitation said.

“We will be happy to welcome you to join in the celebration. This is in recognition of the invaluable work you have done to uncover and preserve the history, culture and tradition of our people, and placing Sankana on the world map of dcholarship. We acknoledge these efforts you have made that are of invaluable benefit to Sankana, and we wish to register our sincere gratitude with this modest gesture.” Part of the invitation read.

“We propose to enskin you as a Pognaa (Queenmother) of Sankana, with the royal title Pognaa Pirima (Mother of the Rocks). This enskinment will be the first of two steps. The second will be to confer on you an honorary membership of the Sankana Traditional Council.” They announced.

According to Prof. Naana Jane “Sankana holds sentimental value to me because some of my earliest research was done here. Later, under President Mahama, we improved the educational facilities in the area. I have been given the honorary title of Pognaa Piirima (Mother of the Rocks), a position I hold dear.”

She also assured to contribute more to the progress of Sankana.

“I look forward to contributing even more to the progress of Sankana, and invite everyone to join me to celebrate these wonderful people.” She assured.
