Nigeria’s president Chief Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu has denied claims that he fell over during a ceremony to mark 25 years of democracy in the country.
According to him, he had a swagger and people have turned it to be a fall over.
Most Nigerians expressed their sympathy to the president when he slipped and fell when the 72 year old was set to review the parade on Democracy Day.
The video went viral and triggered a lot of reactions. While others sympathised with him, some were mocking him and attributed his fall over to the fall of the country’s economy and the currency “Naira”.
But delivering his speech at the state Banquet Dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to mark Democracy Day, the president jokingly said he had a swagger and it is on social media.
He said the social media users were confused about whether I was doing Buga or doing babariga.
“Early this morning, I had a swagger and it’s on the social media. They were confused about whether I was doing Buga or doing babariga, But, It is a day to celebrate democracy while doing “Idobale” for the day.” The president said.
Tinubu also said he was displaying his traditional dance ‘Idobale’
“I am a traditionally Yoruba boy and I did my ‘Idobale'” He added.
Meanwhile, former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said, Nigeria’s democracy is not yet virile if it continually fails to deliver the promises of prosperity and liberty to the people.
“But our democracy is not yet virile if it continually fails to deliver the promises of prosperity and liberty to the people. However, the past nine years has thrown up a regime of extreme hardship manifested in excruciating poverty and unprecedented levels of violence and insecurity upon our people. Sadly, the ruling All Progressives Congress is to blame for bringing forth this dawn of gloom.” Atiku said.
