The Techiman Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mrs. Regina Antwiwaa Tenge, says the Ghana Police Service, in a bid to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the youth has introduced the “Snatched Them Young Policing Initiative” (STYPI).

ACP Mrs. Regina Antwiwaa Tenge explained that the STYPI is aimed to educate and engage young people in their communities, fostering a sense of trust and cooperation between the police and the youth.

The initiative, according to her, will also eradicate the mindset that the police only exist to intimidate and create a sense of fear in the youth.

“The Ghana police service has introduced a new initiative which is the snatched young initiative, the aim behind this initiative is to let the youth become aware that the police is their friend and do away with the perception that the police only exist to intimidate and arrest them.” She said

ACP Regina Tenge, emphasized the importance of involving young people in policing efforts, stating, “the police cannot be at all the places at the same time, so we will plead with the public especially the youth to be our eyes and ears on the ground in their various communities, by so doing we can help to protect the society from any deviant activity.”

The “Snatched Them Young Policing Initiative is part of a broader effort by the Ghana Police Service to modernize its approach to community policing and engage with the younger generation. By empowering young people to take an active role in their communities, the police hope to create a safer, more inclusive society for all.

The Techiman Municipal Police Commander, further said “policing is a very good and lucrative profession, I have been in the profession for 33 years and if there is reincarnation, I will choose the police service in my next life because I have never regretted being a police officer.

“We have free medical care, free housing, our pension is also good and the police service also gives us the opportunity and support us to venture into other professions while discharging our duties as police personnel.” She said
