A renowned Master of Ceremonies (MC) David Adjei Frimpong, popularly known as MC Portfolio understands that to win Artist of the Year award goes beyond releasing ons hit song.
He said being Artist of the year is a hard work job and that one should not just become a one hit wonder and claimed to be an Artist of the Year.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, June 1, 2024 during Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), MC Portfolio indicated that the 2024 TGMA awards will set as precedent for artistes to understand that winning Artist of the Years is not by chance but hard work.
“There should be a category beyond Artist of the year, maybe music institution of the year. Look, what he has done the year under review, the quantum of the work, that guy has overtaken all the category boxes. And it is good that this time around Ghana as purported that we have short memories didn’t play out here because indeed, Ghana and the TGMA Board rewarded hard work and this is the evidence about what you saw tonight.” He said.
He suggested that there should be an award that goes beyond Artist of the Year because the musicians are doing a great job and they deserve better.
Portfolio acknowledged the hard work put on by Stonebwoy to win the Artist of the Year.
“Everyone who won deserves it but for the coveted award, this shouldn’t be a debate I have always said moving forward, this is going to set a precedent that no, you can just become a one hit wonder and claim to be an Artist of the Year. There is a lot more you need to do, I appreciate the work King Promise has put in. In fact, for King Promise to be the next contender to give Stonebwoy a headache, that is a bid hands of applause for his team, he has done amazing well.” The MC stated.
According to him, King Promised and his team did a massive job and he believes the musician can win the TGMA in the year 2025.
“But all that he is doing is to prepare him for 2025. 2025, I will vow for King Promise but I am saying that 2023 year under review, Stonebwoy has overtaken the category boxes” He added.
Stonebwoy has been crowned the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year.
