The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has extended the deadline for the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise.

According to the Commission, the extension has become necessary due to the network challenges experienced during the first two (2) days of the registration exercise.

The limited voters’ registration exercise was started on May 7, 2024 and was scheduled to end on May 27, 2024.

But EC indicated that the registration will now end on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 to address the challenges encountered in the beginning.

“The Electoral Commission is pleased to inform the public that the ongoing Voters’ Registration Exercise has been extended for two (2) additional days. The exercise will now end on Wednesday, the 29th of May 2024. This arrangement has been put in place to make up for the network challenges experienced during the first two (2) days of the Registration Exercise,”  The said in a statement.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensure that all eligible voters who wish to register are afforded the opportunity to exercise their constitutional powers.

Citizens who are yet to register are urged to visit the Commission’s office in the district where they reside to register to vote in the December polls.

“The Commission aims to ensure that all eligible voters who wish to register, are afforded the opportunity to do so. We urge all eligible citizens who are yet to register to visit the Commission’s office in the district where they reside to register to vote.” Part of the statement read.

The two days extension comes after the various stakeholders called on the EC to extend the deadline for the registration exercise.

Meanwhile some Ghanaians are still not satisfied with the two days extension.

According to them, two days is still not enough.

Read some of the reactions below

“so what was the hypocrisy you displayed in the initial outright refusal statement to extend the exercise? I have witnessd VCRCA Crab conduct 1992 election followed Dr. Afari Gyan led EC to Charlotte Osei. In your own records, have you ever chanced on the shambolic errors and arrogance you always display in rather defending a Government than been a referee in their works, remember that TRUST is built but not demanded.”

“Two days is still not enough can Jean Mensah listen just for once????? This we will do what we want to do attitude will not help our country.”

“Eii AMA GHANA. Which people are ruling us kraa. The same electoral commission will say something day and come back with something different tommorow. We are doomed under this electoral commission. Now you have agreed to extend the registration date”

“2 days ?? The commission just wants to disenfranchise a lot of people by limiting their ability and possibility to register. Very short time”

“Who advised you guys? @ECGhanaOfficial, Ghanaians did you guys a favor by giving you the opportunity to serve them but you have decided to become their nightmares. Remember things change when power changes hands. One thing you can’t change is power in the hands of Ghanaians.”
