Former Attorney-General of Ghana, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Railways Development Minister, Joe Ghartey has been appointed as the new Board Chair of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) by president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan succeeded Dr. Tony Oteng Gyasi.

Other members who will work with Hon. Joe Ghartey includes Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, Ms Julie Essiam, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, Mrs Elsie Addo Awadzi, Madam Susan Akomea, Mrs Araba Bosomtwe, and Mr Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the new Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority has been urged to use the ongoing digitalization drive to streamline tax administration and reduce the heavy dependence on “human interventions”.

“A new Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority has been inaugurated by the Minister for Finance with a call to use the ongoing digitalization drive to streamline tax administration and reduce the heavy dependence on “human interventions”.” The Finance Ministry said.

“The new GRA Board has been tasked to augment ongoing efforts aimed at fully implementing the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS); Build the capacity of our officers; and improve the quality of data analysis for informed decision making.”

Joe Ghartey who is a Ghanaian lawyer, academic and politician was among the flagbearer hopefuls in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the year 2014.

He was later stepped down after securing 22 votes representing 7% of the total valid votes cast which saw Nana Addo win with an overwhelming 81% in the party’s Super Delegates Congress.

“I am not going to contest in the October 17 elections; we are all going to work for the NPP to come back to power.”
