The Chief of Mateso in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East region who doubles as Officer in charge at the Holy Family Endoscopy Department, Nana Ati Adjei Chief of Mateso has organized a free health screening for over 500 residents in his traditional area.
Nana Ati Adjei, during the screening disclosed that he and his traditional council has put measures in place to provide similar programs for residents of Mateso and its environment every 2 to 3 month with the aim of providing healthy growth and development among his people.
The screening exercise covered 8 major sectors as the beneficiaries were screened on their weight, height, Body mass Index, hypertension, nutritional counseling including many others.
“Whenever I meet my people, I tell them that a society can only thrive if there is peace in that society with its inhabitants having good physical health while enjoying the best of health care.
“As a health worker, it is my aim to help improve the health of my people and for that matter residents of Techiman, so I decided to partner with Holy Family Teaching Hospital and help create awareness on hypertension as the world celebrates World Hypertension Day.
“Hypertension is termed as a silent killer and in order to protect the inhabitants of Mateso to suffer from the consequences of hypertension, I have decided that, every 2 or 3 months, I will organize a free health screening for the people of Mateso because if we have good health, Mateso will develop.” He said
Doctor Kofi Amoako of Holy family hospital emphasized on the need for checkup and said their main aim for the health screening was to check the hypotension statue of the people of hypertension since the world hypertension day falls in this month which is 17th May 2024.
“17th May, is a day designated to create awareness on hypertension every year worldwide, what I realized during the screening is that, the hypertension status of most of the residents in Mateso is good, however, there are some individuals who are living with the disease but they have no idea about it.
“We have prescribed medicine for such people but the medication is for a short time so we also directed them to come to the Holy Family Teaching Hospital for further diagnosis and start a treatment method for them.” He told our reporter.
