The Techiman West Circuit in the Techiman Municipality, in collaboration with the Municipal Education Directorate, has organized a successful Reading and spelling competition for 10 basic schools under the circuit.
The event, which forms part of the Techiman South Municipal Director, Mr. John Kwadwo Amissah’s vision to inculcate reading spirit in learners, was organized to revive and boost the reading culture of children, which formed the basis for gaining knowledge and understanding in all subjects.
Some of the participating schools were, theTechiman Methodist Primary B, Asuoatwe Islamic Primary, Kromo Presby Primary B, St. Dominic Primary including many others.
The circuit supervisor for the Techiman west circuit, Madam Elizabeth Sekyibean Osei, said the competition is organized purposely to build the confidence of the learners as it helps train them in public speaking in public .
She lauded the Techiman Municipal Education Director, Mr. Kwadwo Amissah for implementing the policy of reading among schools, the policy she said have really helped in improving the standard of education especially the productive skills of the learners.
“We are here today for a reading competition, this is a reading competition and quiz competition for JHS learners. This competition forms part of our Education Director, Mr. John Amissah’s vision.
“He has introduced a policy which ensures that all public schools in the Techiman Municipality will start lessons at 7:00am and they start the lesson with reading. Some circuits have organized their reading and quiz competition so we thought it wise to have ours today. She said.
Madam Elizabeth Sekyibean Osei, disclosed that these reading and quiz competitions in the municipality will build the confidence of the learners while also serving as a platform for socialization.
“This opportunity will help the learners to socialize, that is they will know each other as well as the teachers in the circuit and it will also build their confidence.” She told our reporter
