African Electoral Institute commends EC for bold decisions to conduct 2024 elections

African Electoral Institute (AEI) has commended the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana final decisions to govern the 2024 general elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) held a meeting to discuss its 2024 plan with the leadership of the political parties under the auspices of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).

Among other decisions taken by the EC during the meeting were the uses of indelible ink and existing Constitutional Instruments C.I.s for the 2024 elections.

The EC also said the date for the general elections remains Saturday, 7th December, 2024.

They added that the filing fees for the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections will remain the same as in 2020.

Reacting to this, the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) in a statement sighted by Elvisanokyenews.com stated that they are satisfied by the decisions of the EC.

“AEI laud IPAC on this feat as a build-up on a strong beginning for the 2024 General Elections underscoring consensus building and a peaceful credible elections.”

The African Electoral Institute (AEI) urged the EC and the IPAC to continue the  dialogue and maintain the country.

“We urge IPAC to continue the  dialogue and maintain the rapport in the just ended meeting.” The statement read.

STATEMENT OF AFRICAN ELECTORAL INSTITUTE (AEI)  ON THE INTER-PARTY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (IPAC) COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MEETING BETWEEN THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION AND LEADERS OF POLITICAL PARTIES.

African Electoral Institute (AEI) considered the last Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting release of 7th March 2024 as successful and forward-looking.

The AEI is pleased to note the new developments by the Electoral Commission (EC) as follows:

I. The Electoral Calendar has finally been published for the 2024 Elections

II. The coming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections will be on the 7th of December 2024

III. The EC may not introduce a Constitutional Instruments-C I.
The existing – C I’s will remain.

IV.  The Limited Voters registration exercise will be for 21 days.
Specifically from Tuesday, 7th May 2024 to Monday, 27th May 2024.

V. Filing fees for the 2024 presidential and Parliamentary Elections  will remain the same.

VI. And the maintaining of the use of the indelible ink.
