Entertainment journalist Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has questioned the basis of the Ghana Police Service statement with regards to the arrest of controversial social media commentator Albert Nat Hyde, a.k.a. Bongo Ideas.
According to him, the Police only released the statement to clear the air about the report of his (Bongo Ideas) arrest but failed to give details on what actually happened whether Bongo I deas lied or some people who are not police or national security operative picked him up.
There were reports on social media on Thursday, March 14, 2024, that Ghana Police Service and National Security Operatives have picked up Bongo Ideas from his home in Accra because of derogatory comments he shared about First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo on social media.
But both the Ghana Police Service and the National Security have denied the reports.
Commenting on the development on United Showbiz monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com, Arnold Asamoah stated that the statements were diverting attention that the police picked Bongo Ideas up.
He said the statement should have gone further to say that they were doing investigations to figure out what happened.
“I can understand where it is coming from, genuine point but I will give the Ghana Police Service the benefit of the doubt especially if you consider the time lines these things happened. When the report started from social media, they mentioned two institutions, the Ghana Police Service and the National Security. So in my own estimation, Ghana Police Service and the National Security first responsibility or mandate was to clear every doubt that they were not responsible for Bongo Ideas arrest, so I will totally agree that the statement should have gone further to say that they were doing investigations to figure out what happened.” He said.
“I am sure they did that release just to disabuse everybody of the story that was going around that Ghana Police Service arrested him. That is why National Security was able to come out that it is not their operatives who arrested Bongo Ideas. Now everyone can go back to the Ghana Police release in the last years, they go into it to state what really happened, this person lied, this is what transpired.” He added.
He therefore called on the Ghana Police Service to conduct further investigations and come out with what really happened.
“Now there are two things involved, first is perhaps he was creating fear and panic and the second is that it might be that some people who are not police or National Security picked him up, we need to figure out what happened. So the police should rather do investigations and come back to us and tell us that indeed Bongo Ideas lied or there were some people who picked him up and took him here and there. We need that statement.” He stated.
