The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagba has apologised to Ghanaians on behalf of the government for the recent power outage.

Ghanaians have raised concerns over the intermittent power outages which are affecting their businesses and livelihoods.

Some even have called for the government and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to admit that dumsor has returned and come out with a timetable to guide them in their day to day activities.

The ECG and the government have insisted there is no dumsor and that there is no need for loadshedding.

But speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, March 16, 2024, Richard Ahiagba admitted that the service delivery in this year particularly, at the beginning of March has not been great.

He said the NPP government came to office with the primary goal of fixing the problems in the country but electricity issues still persist.

According to him, what Ghanaians need is to make electricity to embark on their daily activities.

“When this government came into office, its primary goal was to fix the problem and we started fixing the problem but the issue specifically on dumsor, I think that the first thing or all that we need to do is to apologise to Ghanaians. I think that that conversation has to be emphasized clearly that what they want is to make the light on and this government is committed to do that until I think March this year has not been great. So I think that it is in order to acknowledge that.” He said.

Meanwhile, Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Benjamin Boakye has indicated that the electricity problem is getting worse.

“As I understand, this is bound to get worse, so if the government buys fuel today, we can have the power running, we can have the lights on. But it is not sustainable for the government to be doing that. It is not sustainable for us to be sacrificing the budget to be paying for the fuel. Even if we were going to give the fuel to ECG and they guaranteed that they would sell the power and recover the money, it wouldn’t be a problem, it would be one of the expenditure” He stated.
