The National Communications Authority (NCA) has explained that multiple undersea cable disruptions caused major internet outages in West and Central Africa.
According to NCA, the disruptions affecting multiple undersea cables responsible for carrying international traffic have occured in Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire and with some disruptions in Portugal. This has led to a significant degradation of data services across the country.
According to Netblocks data, Ivory Coast faced a severe outage, while Liberia, Benin, Ghana, and Burkina Faso experienced significant impacts. Cloudflare, an internet firm, confirmed ongoing major disruptions in Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, and Niger through one of its monitoring accounts.
“The National Communications Authority (NCA) regrettably informs the general public that multiple undersea cable disruptions have affected Mobile and Fixed Data services nationwide.” NCA said in a statement sighted by Elvisanokyenews.com.

It is important to note that the Mobile Network Operations (MNOs) are working around the clock to restore full services. In addition, MNOs have informed affected customers of the disruptions via various channels.
The authority is monitoring the situation and will update the public accordingly.
