He emphasized the importance of leaders not being selfish but instead elevating people to higher positions in life, hence he will only serve the Bono East regional chairman for only four years and he hopes his target will be met during this 2024 general election.
The Bono East Regional Chairperson of the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, popularly known as Chairman IB, has revealed that the core mandate of a good leader is to elevate “his people” to higher positions in life.
He explained that a good leader should be selfless in discharging his or her duties and must be ready to step down when the need arises. He advised members of the party to keep contributing their quota to the party without harboring any grudges with or any member of the party because good work pays.
“If you are serving the party lackadaisical because of me then you don’t know what you are doing because if you serve the party well, your time will also come, I am coming to serve the party for only four years and after four year, there will be another elections, so if you serve the party lackadaisical because of me or any other member of the party, then you not only doing disservice to the party but to yourself as well.” Chairman Ibrahim Bukari explained.
He therefore revealed that he will be leading the New Patriotic Party in the Bono East Region for only one term and said he will brand himself as a selfish leader should he fail to groom anybody to take over his position after his tenure in office.
He acknowledges that it would be unnecessary for a leader to retire without grooming someone to replace them because every leader needs to train competent people to replace them in the near future.
In an interview with Rev. Nana Amakye on Classic FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show, Chairman IB said, “let me tell you something, if I lead the party for four years, and I failed to groom anybody to took over, then I am a selfish leader, one thing I always say is, I groom people in every sector I find myself, as a contractor, I have been able to nurture 37 individuals who are now successful contractors.” He said
He continue, “there is no honor in being the only person who can do something, the only benefit the society can get from you is to nurture others to continue your good works in the society, so if you are a politician, if you are leader and you think without you the society can’t do anything then you are selfish, you must train others who can take over from you and even do better than for the betterment of the community,”
Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari highlights the significance of selflessness in leadership explaining that, “leaders should prioritize the development and growth of others, rather than focusing solely on their own interests. By elevating others to higher positions, leaders contribute to the overall progress and success of their organizations or communities.”
Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari emphasizes the importance of succession planning in leadership. It is crucial for leaders to identify and groom potential successors who can continue their work and maintain organizational continuity.
