Sokode Senior High Technical School has been temporarily closed down.
The Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) closed down the school on Sunday, 23rd February, 2025 following a violence erupted between students and residents of the Sokode community.
According to a report filed by Myjoyonline.com, some notorious students who entered the community without permission on Friday, 21st February, 2025 clashed with the residents leading to injury of one resident.
One Teacher who spoke to the portal revealed that about ten community members stormed the premises of the Sokode Senior High Technical School on Sunday, 23rd February, 2025 to seek revenge but the students numbering over one thousand clashed with the local residents and overpowered them.
Reports suggest that the local residents sustained injuries and some of the students were also hurt and other shcool properties were damaged.
“The situation was very serious so when the Regional Minister arrived at the school premises to ascertain the situation, REGSEC, school authorities, and the community leaders concluded that the school be closed indefinitely. We are astonished about the clash.” One Teacher spoke to Myjoyonline.com on condition of anonymity.
“So currently, the school has been closed down temporarily, and so students will stay at their homes until the next term, and unfortunately, this term’s examinations cannot be organised until their return. This is another problem. To ensure the safety of the students, arrangements were made to help the students reach their destinations.” He added.
The date for the students to return to school is currently unknown.
Individuals who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital.
