Germain-based football club BV Borussia Dortmund, has sacked head coach Nuri Şahin following a disappointing run of form, losing four consecutive games in all competitions.
The Black and Yellow last won a game on 22nd December, 2024, in a league game against Wolfsburg, which remains their only victory under Nuri Şahin in their last nine games.
After last Tuesday’s 2:1 defeat to FC Bologna, Dortmund released an official statement confirming the sacking of head coach Nuri Şahin.
“Borussia Dortmund and Nuri Sahin are parting ways with immediate effect. BVB has dismissed its head coach following the disappointing 2:1 defeat in the UEFA Champions League at FC Bologna on Tuesday evening.”
Dortmund’s sporting director, Lars Ricken, explained that although management of the team had great hopes in the potentials and abilities of Sahin, the team’s current performance in winning only a game in nine matches made it difficult for them to continue with him.
“However, after four consecutive losses, with only one win in the last nine matches, and currently sitting 10th in the Bundesliga table, we have unfortunately lost confidence in achieving our sporting goals together. This decision is painful but became unavoidable after the game in Bologna,” Ricken explained.
Additionally, Borussia Dortmund announced that Mike Tullberg will take charge on the bench as head coach next Saturday in the Bundesliga match against SV Werder Bremen.
According to reports, Erik ten Hag is favorite to replace Nuri Şahin as Dortmund’s new coach. However, Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg says Ten Hag will demand a long-term contract. The move also depends on the clearance of his severance pay by the Red Devils.
