Minister of Education-designate Haruna Iddrisu has said the government will refund level 100 students of the various Universities in Ghana who have already paid their tuition fees will be refunded.

According to him, President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government is committed to make tertiary education accessible to every Ghanaian citizen.

Adding that the President has expanded the free tuition for level 100 students of the various tertiary universities to the private universities.

“President Mahama and the NDC promised free tuition for students from level 100 who would undertake normal programs in the public various universities in our country including what he has said expanded to private tertiary institutions. The population for which the country is required is about three hundred and forty-five million Ghana cedis. Of the population of students who enter tertiary institutions that is what the state would be required to do.” The Member of Parliament for Tamale South said this during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, January 20, 2025.

The former Minority Leader continued “We intend to provide that money to the affected universities at least one to make refunds to all those who have already paid those fees. And the beauty of this is that it is open, even parents who are still willing to pay can do so under this principle that has been introduced by the NDC. So we intend to mobilize with the Finance Minister some additional financing to cater for the population of the students.”

“It will be around 125, 000 as I look at it and will provide 375 million Ghana cedi to support that so every student who has paid will have a refund of his money and the President intends to expand this over the year.”

Prior to the 2024 election, the then Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama promised that first year students of all the universities in Ghana will go to school free.
