Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has defended President John Dramani Mahama on allegation that he is also becoming a clearing agent.
According to him, President Mahama can not be described as a clearing agent because he has not been involved in any cases he has discontinued.
Addressing the media, Dr. Ayine stated that he has not briefed the president on any of the decisions he has taken to discontinue the cases.
“Stating that he is very confident that he will be declared innocent so that is why Ghanaians labeled him the clearing agent. His Excellency John Dramani Mahama can not be labeled as clearing agent because as I said in my statement, he is not been involved in any decision, I have not briefed him in any of these decisions, I will in appropriate time maybe do a Cabinet Momo so that His Excellency and my Cabinet colleagues will be formerly informed of the decision that I have taken.” The Attorney-General stated.
The A-G upon assumption in office declared that among others former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) 0f COCOBOD, Dr. Stephen Opuni Frimpong, Businessman Seidu Agongo and Agricult Ghana Limited case be dropped.
He also dropped the case against former Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda and four others. Former Director-General of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Dr. Ernest Thompson case has also been dropped.
But Dr. Dominic Ayine indicated that he takes full responsibility for his decisions to drop those cases.
“Until then, His Excellency remains innocent and stands fair away from the decision that I have taken and I have told you that I have taken absolute responsibility for all the decisions as the Attorney-General. It is my responsibility as the Attorney-General, if there is any fault in the decision I have taken I am taking responsibility today and I will take responsibility in the future.” He said.
