Bono East: Council of State representative pledges to improve standard of education

The Bono East representative on the Council of State and Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area, Nana Pimapim Yaw Kabrese IV, has revealed that, his top priority will be to improve the standard of education in the region and Ghana as a whole.

Speaking with the media after his election, Nana Pimapim Yaw Kabrese IV explained that education is the surest way to success and as a Council of State member, he will do everything within his powers to improve the quality of education in the country.

The Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area pledged to collaborate closely with assembly members, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Directors of Education, and the Regional Minister to achieve his aim.

He further assured that he would actively engage policymakers to ensure that schools in the region receive the necessary resources and support to enhance teaching and learning.

“I am grateful to the electoral college for voting for me as the Bono East representative on the Council of State.

“I contested this position against ten other capable individuals, so I will not be working alone. I will consult with those I competed with and work closely with all the assembly members, MMDCEs, Members of Parliament, and the Bono East Regional Minister.

“My top most priority is to improve the standard of education in our region and the country at large, we are all here today because of our educational background, so I will do my very best to ensure that education standards in the region and the country are improved.

“I will meet with the districts, municipal, and regional directors of education in the region to help find a suitable to enhance our standard of education.” He stated.

The 73-year-old, who once served as the President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, secured 11 out of 22 votes cast, emerging victorious in a contest that featured 11 candidates.

The election took place at the Bonokyempim Hall in Techiman, with delegates from 11 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the region participating under heavy security presence.

His closest challenger, Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour, a 65-year-old engineer and Manwerehene of the Techiman Tradtional Council, received 7 votes, while 40-year-old pastor Michael Kwasi Amponsah, who doubles as the Ankobeahene of the Techiman Traditional Council garnered 4 votes.

Meanwhile, seven other candidates, including former Techiman South MP Simmons Addai and People’s National Convention (PNC) Regional Chairman George Bauh Inusah, failed to secure any votes.
