Chelsea FC head coach, Enzo Maresca has revealed that he cannot select Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku and João Felix in the same game.
According to him, although the three players have their unique qualities, they plays in similar roles on the field of play.
He said all three players thrive in the same position, making it challenging to find a balance in the team, stressing on the need for defensive balance in the team, hence his reason for not selecting all three players in the starting lineup.
Maresca further disclosed that, he maybe able to select two out of the three attacking players in his starting lineup but it will be extremely difficult to field all three players in the same game.
“For me it’s quite easy, we have three players that are more or less similar, Joao & Cole & Christo.”
“João Felix played some games, Christo Nkunku also played and they both started against Ipswich and Southampton they played, Leicester they played.”
“Some games they can both play together but not every game because every game is a bit different.” He said.
On João Felix, the Gaffer said selecting him for matches is always difficult due to the fact that Chelsea have a lot of attacking players in their books.
“It’s difficult to play João Félix with so many attacking players. In my idea it means that if Joao plays, it means Cole doesn’t play.”
“if Joao plays he has to play with Cole together but it depends on the game. For me it’s quite easy, we have three players but they are more or less similar; Cole, Joao and Christopher Nkunku.
This selection dilemma has resulted in limited playing time for Nkunku and Felix in the Premier League, despite their impressive performances in cup competitions.
