Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Pierre James Trudeau, has called on the President of the United States of America, Donald John Trump to abandon the trade war with his allies and recognize the immense potential for cooperation between the United States and Canada.

Trudeau acknowledged the fact that Donald Trump’s ongoing trade war with Canada and Mexico may have serious consequences for Canada, but stressed that the real impact would ultimately be felt by the American people.

President Donald Trump has pushed into new trade law territory with an emergency sanctions law to justify punishing 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports and an extra 10% duty on Chinese goods to curb fentanyl and illegal immigration into the U.S.

In response, Canada and Mexico have imposed retaliatory tariffs on American goods, and businesses and consumers in both countries are questioning how the new trade war might affect them

The Prime Minister pointed to Canada’s vital role in sectors like energy, technology, agriculture, and manufacturing, all of which are intertwined with American interests. He reiterated that Canada’s position as a trusted neighbor and trading partner has never been more crucial to U.S. growth.

Trudeau, further disclosed that tariff against Canada could put American jobs at risk, potentially threatening the operations of American auto assembly plants.

”I want to speak directly to Americans, our closest friends and neighbors. This is a choice that, yes, will harm Canadians, but beyond that, it will have real consequences for you, the American people.

“As I have consistently said, tariffs against Canada will put your jobs at risk, potentially shutting down American auto assembly plants and other manufacturing facilities.

“They will raise costs for you, including food at the grocery stores and gas at the pump. They will impede your access to an affordable supply of vital goods crucial for U.S. security, such as nickel, potash, uranium, steel, and aluminum.

“They will violate the free trade agreement that the President and I, along with our Mexican partner, negotiated and signed a few years ago. It doesn’t have to be this way.” He stated.

The Canadian Prime Minister explained that if President Trump truly aims to usher in a new golden age for the United States, the better path forward lies in forging stronger, more collaborative ties with Canada.

“As I’ve said before, if President Trump wants to usher in a new golden age for the United States, the better path is to partner with Canada, not to punish us.”
