“Our youth are getting tired and frustrated at the lack of opportunity in the continent” – H.E John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged African leaders to take urgent action in accelerating economic growth across the continent.

Speaking at the 2025 Africa Prosperity Dialogues, President Mahama explained that expanding investment, and creating more employment opportunities for the youth in Africa is the surest way to maintain their trust and faith in democratic governance.

H.E John Dramani Mahama expressed concern that Africa’s youth are tired and frustrated at the lack of opportunity in the continent and therefore the need for Africa leaders to prioritize economic growth to regain the confidence of their citizens.

He also called for transparency and accountability among Africa leaders to ensure good governance and sustainable development.

“Prosperity cannot be achieved without good governance, transparency and accountability. Investors and businesses strive where there is stability, predictable policies and the rule of law.

“Our youth are getting tired and frustrated at the lack of opportunity for realizing their dreams and aspirations. Our decision to embrace democratic governance was supposed to be accompanied by a dividend that will lead to improvement in the lives of our people and prosperity for all.

“Unfortunately progress in this regard has been sluggish and largely intangible. If we are to maintain the faith and trust of our citizens in democratic and constitutional governance, we must accelerate our rates of economic growth, expand investment and provide employment opportunities for our young people.” He stated.

The President continued, ”as leaders, therefore, we must reaffirm our commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring free, fair and transparent elections. We must fight corruption which robs our nations of  resources needed for development and we must promote peace and security as economic growth is impossible in times of conflict.

”It is therefore a call to action, this African prosperity dialogue, that Africa’s time is now.”
