Hospital Director at the Accra Psychiatrist Hospital, Dr. Kojo Obeng, has urged employers to increase their investments in mental health initiatives for the employers.
Dr. Obeng disclosed that, the continuous relegation of mental health in the workplace is not only detrimental to the success and vision of companies, but also to the overall health and productivity of their employees.
Dr. Obeng further disclosed that, employers have a responsibility to create a healthy work environment that supports the mental wellbeing of their employees.
He however urged all and sundry to as a matter of urgency prioritize their own mental wellbeing without necessary waiting for someone (employers) to invest in their mental health issues.
Dr. Kojo Obeng, entreated everyone to at least talk to a mental health professional while excising regularly, eating balance diet and getting enough rest to ensure a good state of their mental health.
“Anybody who is not sleeping as well as they should, anybody who is not able to concentrate, anybody who finds themselves getting more easily annoyed than they should be by little things should seek professional help because all of these are signs that your mental health might not be at 100% and you might benefit from talking to a mental health professional.
“You might not need medication, but at least you might benefit from talking to a mental health professional and it’s important for maintaining your mental health that you exercise regularly, you eat healthy food, a healthy, balanced diet and you get adequate amounts of sleep but if all of this is failing and you’re not able to manage your day-to-day activities, well, please come in and talk to a mental health professional.” He said
