Nkawie District Cocoa Officer of Cocoa Health Extension Division (CHED) for COCOBOD, Mr. Nii Koi Kottey, has made a passionate appeal to farmers especially cocoa farmers to handle fire with care during this harmattan season.
According to him, the effects of bushfire is devastating and handling fire with the outmost care in farms can safeguard investment made on their farms.
Mr. Nii Koi Kottey, made this disclosing during a community engagement at Nkawie, Mpasatia, Kwame Dwaa, and Bedabour enclaves where he hinted that COCOBOD has increased the cocoa price and its time farmers protect their farms against bushfire
“We know that the increment in the cocoa price has make the farmers happy and through our extension officers, we are sensitizing the farmers against bushfire.
“We are pleading with the cocoa farmers and all farmers in the country not to start fire in their farms and when it becomes necessary for them to do use fire in their farms, they should adhere to all the precautions in order to prevent any disaster.
“”It is our hope and prayer that our farmers will enjoy a bountiful harvest, enabling them to improve their financial situation.” He said
Mr. Nii Koi Kottey, further disclosed that, he is impressed with the collaboration his organization has received from farmers towards the cocoa reforms.
He disclosed that the Cocoa Health Extension Division will continue to discharge its duties by providing technical advice to farmers to help increase their yields.
“I can say that the farmers have now understand the methods in farming and their relationship with our extension officers are very good
“They fully participated in our pruning exercise and that has really help them a lot.” He said
