Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, and Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Preparatory Team, says the formation of the anti-corruption preparatory committee is necessary to combat corruption in Ghana.
According to him, the outgoing Nana Addo, Bawumia government have created a failed ecosystem where whistleblowers are afraid to share vital information to state investigative agencies as they will be subjected to sever threats.
He explained that, majority of Ghanaians have expressed overwhelming trust in the incoming John Mahama’s government and will be more than willing to share vital information with the Anti-Corruption Preparatory team in Mahama’s quest in recovering all loots by individuals occupying state positions under the current government.
“Those who blow whistle under this Akufo-Add0, Bawumia government have come under severe threat because the president himself gained the nickname rather infamously as a clearing agent. So when you say that, oh, these institutions are there, let people go and report to them, why are you creating it? It’s because we have a failed ecosystem. The leadership did not encourage that kind of attitude and many people fear for their lives.
“Many people are scared, and that is why we are taking advantage of the goodwill, the fact that you have an incoming administration, people are more trustworthy of the new team. They would rather want to present the information, they know they will be protected, they know they are safe, they know that information will be put to good use. There wouldn’t be a hurry by the outgoing president to just clear his appointees, so this climate is what has really necessitated.”
Mr. Ablakwa emphatically disclosed that, the work of the anti-corruption preparatory committee of which he will chair will be devoid of any biases and political witch hunting.
“I can assure you that there will be no witch hunting because you see at the end of the day, if you are driven by other motives, apart from the hardcore evidence, apart from wrongdoing, apart from the fact that there has been a blunder, there has been state capture, there has been state corruption, you will be exposed.
“If our work do not really stand the test, no serious Attorney General will even entertained in our report, so be rest assured that this is no witch hunting.” He disclosed
