The Twafo Hene of the Techiman Traditional Council, Nana Afena Nketiah has disclosed that leaderships of Political Parties in the Techiman Metropolis and the Bono East Region at large lack a united front to lobby for top positions like Ministers, CEOs and Board Members for their members whenever a new Government is formed hence the lack of desired development in this part of our Country.
Nana Afena Nketiah, who is also a Business mogul and the Chief Executive Officer of F. Zeini Group of Companies which includes Techiman based Classic FM, believes that both the leaderships of the two major political parties thus the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress over the years have failed to lobby for enough top positions for their members that it is why only a hand-full of persons from the Bono East Region have been able occupied Ministerial or CEO offices.
”Right now everybody is busy lobbying for the position of a Mayor and MCE. Fifteen people contested for the position of Mayor in Techiman South, and fourteen people contested for the Municipal Chief Executive position.
”If there was unity in the party, the party executives should have submitted a list to the Presidency by now, outlining the names of individuals from both Techiman North and South constituencies who are capable of holding key positions in state institutions. Unfortunately, that has not been done.
”If they had done that, I don’t think we would have more than ten people contesting for the positions of Mayor and Municipal Chief Executive in Techiman North and South.” He told the media
Speaking in an interview with the Media, Nana Afena Nketiah said it is very prudent for Political activists to have “God-Fathers” at the top who can lead party members to the appointing authorities to secure slots or positions in order not to limit their members to only Members of Parliament, MMDCEs or Regional Ministers.
Nana Afena Nketiah continue by calling on leaderships of both NPP and NDC to come together whenever a new Government comes in order to be able to submit names of competent People to the President to demand for positions and refrain from always working against themselves in the fight for a lower positions like MMDCEs.
”We really don’t have any top official either in the NPP or NDC in our constituency, a Member of Parliament should be an individual with enough links to lobby for developmental projects for his or her constituency.
”The truth is, we have some Member of Parliaments that can’t even call their President and often have to reintroduce themselves whenever they meet him, despite being from the same political party.
”In politics, you have to get some top officials or strong connections who can help bring more developmental projects to your constituency. Having a prominent political figure as a mentor is very important.” He said.
