Ghana government’s transition team, on last Friday, 13th December 2024, as part of their report on their second meeting, have announced seven key decisions that are expected to propel them to achieve their goal.

The transition team, which is made up of members of the outgoing and members of the incoming government, is tasked with ensuring a seamless and efficient transfer of executive authority, as mandated by the constitution to maintain stability and continuity in governance.

In a report signed by the spokesperson of the government’s transition team, Fatimatu Abubakar, recommended for the constitution of six additional sub-committees to complement the efforts of the transition team.

Each sub-committee, is expected to have  six members with three nominees each from the out-going and in-coming government.

The proposed six sub-committees  are Finance and Economy, Energy and Natural Resources, Legal and governance, Infrastructure, Interior/Public Safety(Security), Social Sector.

“The Transition Team, at its second meeting today,13th December,2024 at the Accra International Conference Center, arrived at the following decisions.

“The constitution of Six(6)additional sub-committees,namely

·Finance and Economy

Energy and Natural Resources

·Legal and governance

·Infrastructure

·Interior/Public Safety(Security)

*Social Sector

“Membership of the various sub-committees comprise of three(3) nominees each from the out-going and in-coming governments, with the Head of Civil Service,Head of Local Government Service and Cabinet secretary joining any committee when their services are required.” A portion of the report stated

According to the report, the current government’s term will expire on 6th January, 2025 and as such have the legal mandate to recruit individuals into various state institutions.

The reports further debunks claims that all ongoing payments and recruitment should be referred to the transition team.

However, the reports says “allegation of illegality about any particular payment or recruitment should be brought to the transition team.”

“Regarding concerns about on-going recruitment and payments,it was noted that the Government’s term expires at the midnight of 6th January.2025.

“These recruitment processes and payments have received the relevant statutory approvals and have not been proven to be illegal.

“It was decided that any specific allegation of illegality about any particular payment or recruitment should be brought to the attention of the Transition Team for a decision to be made.

“Kindly disregard any statements purporting to indicate that the committee has taken a decision to the effect that all ongoing payments and recruitment should be referred to the transition team as same does not reflect the records of the meeting.” The reports stated.

Fatimatu Abubakar, through the report “reiterate Government’s commitment to a seamless transitional process” as they  “prepare to pass the baton to the in-coming government on 7th January. 2025.”
