Ohenaba Nana Asiedu, an aide to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi has been release on bail by the Police.
The Wontumi radio/TV presenter was arrested by the Ghana Police Service on Saturday, 23rd November, 2024 for false publications about the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Among other things, Ohenaba Nana Asiedu is expected to report to the Police periodically as part of his bail condition. According to Citinewsroom.com report.
The report added that the Police will investigate the matter to ascertain the negative impacts of the presenter’s remarks on the December 7 polls.
Ohenaba Asiedu on Wontumi TV said the 2024 election is going to be held in two different categories.
First, Ghanaians will vote on the first 7 Presidential Candidates which Dr. Bawumia is part of them and the second batch which is number 8, 9, 10 up until 13 on the ballot paper will be conducted later.
The presenter claimed anyone who fails to vote on Saturday, December 7 for Dr. Bawumia will not get the chance to vote again.
“The Police, Soldiers and the Electoral Commission will not allow you to vote if you fail vote on December 7 for Dr Bawumia.” Ohenaba Asiedu claimed.
“So I am calling all of you, people from my home town and everywhere to go out and vote for Dr. Bawumia on the 7th December. That is what we are voting, from number 1 to number 7” Wontumi’s aide added.
His remarks generated a lot of reactions on social media before his arrest.
The Ghana Police Service has vowed and assured the public that they will do everything within their powers to ensure that Ghanaians go to poll without any fear and intimidation.
Meanwhile, Journalists have been advised to be circumspect in their reportage in the general elections.
