Ghanaian disc jockey, DJ Kwaku Slim has responded to Deputy Minister of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mark Okraku-Mantey’s remarks that beginners are advising veterans in the creative arts industry.
He said every professional was once a novice so there is nothing wrong for a beginner to advise a veteran.
Speaking to And Dosty on Hitz FM, Okraku Mantey stated that “In Ghana, you see somebody who has done one job advising Okraku Mantey with 8-year-album achievements. Yeah, it is the beginners who are advising the veterans.”
He added that “It must change” because advising someone who has done great achievement means you don’t appreciate their works. “I am a role model to your role model, so if you have not done any project in the Art, how will you appreciate my achievements? But you have been given the microphone to advise me, to advise Shatta Wale, to advise Stonebwoy, are you sure you appreciate their achievements.? The Minister quizzed.
But responding to the Minister’s remark on Hits FM, DJ Slim lamented the impact of the Minister’s comments and how some artistes have been disrespecting entertainment pundits.
“The Minister was saying most pundits start making their submission by saying I think……And according to him we don’t have the level of experience to advise and the word pundit refers to a person who has a certain level of experience in the industry in order to speak on issues. In my editorial piece I think it is just a small thing I want to tell the Minister that every professional was once a novice.” He said.
“Understand that fact and once you are able to connect with the people on the ground, even if they have zero idea, one day they might present an angle that you never thought of….Pundits have always been under scrutiny by saying they don’t add value to the entertainment cycle. Artistes are insulting us, now our own, oh Charlie,” DJ Slim lamented.
