The Member of Parliament for Techiman South and Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has reaffirmed his commitment to uplifting the image of the Techiman Ohene Ameyaw Model School.
The Ohene Ameyaw Module School has long been a vital part of Techiman’s educational landscape, as it is one of the oldest schools in the metropolis providing quality education to countless students since establishment in 1954.
Hon. Martin, who is an alumnus of Ohene Ameyaw Model School, made this assertion during the 70th anniversary celebrations of the school. According to him, the NPP government is poised in providing quality education to Ghanaian school going children and he as an alumnus of the school is dedicated in providing a conducive environment for learners and teachers alike in the school.
“We will support the school in building the school canteen, recreational activities plays a vital role in the educational system so in the near future, we will get a place for recreational activities for our learners and that I believe will enhance the quality of life in the school.
“I remain committed any day and any time to support the development of the school and I strongly believe that now that we have been able to fence the school, all other projects to upgrade the school will follow soon.” He said.
Hon. Korsah, promised the learners he will celebrate the 70th anniversary in a grand style for them, he however, urged them to be discipline and take their education serious.
“We will help you to celebrate the 70th anniversary in a grand style but I will entreat you to be good children and focus on your education because I and my government are dedicated in ensuring you get the best of education in the country. ” Hon. Korsah said
The Ohene Ameyaw Model School, prior to the celebration of its 70th anniversary was called Ameyaw M/A Primary School but the name has been changed to meet its royal status as the school is named after the Paramount Chief of Techiman.
On behalf of the Paramount Chief of Techiman, Oseadeyo Nana Akumfi Ameyaw IV, the Gyaasehene of the Techiman Traditional Council, Nana Kosakore Toapea, who happens to be an alumnus of the school, shared a brief history concerning the naming of the school.
Nana urged facilitators and management of the school to instill discipline in the learning as he believes that by so doing, the Techiman Ohene Ameyaw Model School, will produce a lot of responsible individuals not only in Techiman but Ghana at large.
“This school is very dear to the people and the Techiman Traditional Council, the school started as Ameyaw Local Authority (L/A) School, it was initially a middle school but later, we got infrastructures and admitted early grade learners.
“I remember I joined the school at class 4 and Hon. Adjei-Mensah Korsah was my classmate. I am very grateful to this school because I am who I am today thanks to the kind of training and education I received in this very school.
“I will urge the facilitators to ensure discipline among the learners and by so doing the school will continue to produce responsible individuals for Techiman, Bono East, and Ghana at large.” He said.
Headteacher of the school, Mrs. Gladys Darko, in an interview with the media disclosed that, although there are numerous challenges facing the school, she envision raising funds as part of the 70th anniversary to build a modern canteen for the learners.
Mrs. Gladys revealed that, Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah has promised to support the school in building the canteen from scratch to finish but calls on all well meaning citizens to come to the aid of the school to tackle other challenges facing the Techiman Ohene Ameyaw Model School.
“We have over 2,000 learners and it is always disturbing to watch them sit on the ground and take canteen during brake time, so we hope to get a modern canteen for our learners.
“Hon. Korsah is a product of this school and he has contributed a lot in uplifting the image of the school. He built an ICT center a library for the school, he also provided us with 5 dustbins to help promote sanitation in the school.
“Hon. Korsah has promised to support us build the canteen from scratch to finishing and I am very grateful to him.
“The Techiman South Mayor, Hon. Benjamin Yaw Gyarko, is also a former student of this school and he has also been very supportive, and on behalf of the school, I say a very big thank you to him and our member of parliament.” She said.
The Minister’s commitment to uplifting the image of the school is a testament to his dedication to the well-being and development of the community. By focusing on enhancing the quality of life for all learners, he is ensuring that students receive the best possible education and are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in life.
