A leading Member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has reacted to news statistics that placed Ghana in second position of African countries with the lowest hunger levels.
A recent Financing Africa report released by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation shows the top 10 African countries with the lowest hunger levels under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2), which seeks to eradicate hunger, increase food security, enhance nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
In the statistics, Mauritius ranked 1st country with 71.5 followed by Ghana 70.8. Uganda ranked the third position with 66.7 and Cote d’Ivoire 65.4, Benin 65.4, Egypt 65.3, Morocco 64.7 and Rwanda 63.0. Senegal became the 9th African country with the lowest hunger level with 61.8 and Malawi got 61.7 on the 10th position.
Reacting to this, Gabby said though Ghana is struggling with economic challenges, the Economic Management Team did well for the country to recover from the global cost of living crisis.
“When you see these stats from the UN, what do they tell you & Ghana’s coping mechanism over the period of global cost of living crisis — the worst since 1933? Yes, the struggle is real. But let’s see how we use the recovery before us responsibly and not be too harsh on ourselves.” Gabby wrote on his X.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) is aimed at ensuring that food security efforts revive in rural communities but no African country can boost the complete achievement of the UN’s SDG2 goals.
But per the recent report, some of the countries in Africa who follow the UN’s SDG2 goals guidelines are close to that.
