Black Stars of Ghana Head Coach, Otto Addo has apologized to Ghanaians for the team failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The senior national team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Niger in their final 2025 AFCON qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana secured only three goals in six matches without a win in their group stages.
Addressing the media after their final game with Niger, Otto Addo stated that he is very sorry for the results.
According to him, many people rate the World Cup as the most important tournament than AFCON but for him, the AFCON is bigger than the World Cup, the reason he felt so disappointed for failing to qualify.
“Really, I would like to apologize for the results, I know for a lot of people, the World Cup is bigger than AFCON but for me, personally the AFCON is bigger. This is my personal point of view. I know for a lot of people it is important to go to the World Cup and I will take it once. When I did it for the World Cup, a lot of people were happy before I came.” Otto Addo said.
The coach added that it is important for him to apologize because Ghanaians value the AFCON tournament.
“I am ready to apologize, I am so sorry that we didn’t do well and we didn’t qualify, I am so sorry. This one %100, I need to apologise because I know what it means for every Ghanaian to play in this tournament.” He said.
Otto Addo’s failure to lead the Black Stars to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament has been a major concern among Ghanaian people as others are questioning the importance of his coming back as the head coach of the Black Stars.
Meanwhile, Black Stars Management Committee Member, Akwesi Agyeman has said this is not the right time for Ghana to change the coach.
