The Asokwa Circuit Court One in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital has sentenced four carjackers to 120 years imprisonment.

The convicted persons: Jeffrey Jomoh, also known as Jeff 20 years, Clifford Opoku, also known as Spider, 28 years Prince Opuni and Kwabena Kyei Baffour are serving 30 years in prison.

According to the police prosecutor, ASP Stephen Ofori, they were convicted for committing a series of robberies within the Kumasi metropolis.

He said they were behind all the robbery cases particularly, cars within the Kumasi metropolis.

“These young men were behind all the robbery cases particularly, cars. They snatch your car with weapons, if you joke they will kill you. And they have committed a series of robberies within the Kumasi metropolis.” The police prosecutor said.

“When they snatch the car, they hand it over to one of the accused persons who has also been convicted Kwabena Kyei Baffour who sells the car in Accra. So they were put before this court in February, 2023 and through a successful prosecution, the judgement has been delivered today as you all have seen,” He explained.

ASP Stephen Ofori stated that he is very happy since the sentences will serve as a deterrent for others who have planned to commit such robberies.

“This will serve as a deterrent to people who have planned to commit such robberies. So we are very happy that the case has come to a successful end. But there are other cases they are still facing which we are yet to complete prosecution.” He stressed.

One of the victims whose car was snatched, Mr. Kwabena Appiah, commended the Police for their professional work leading to the sentencing.

According to him, he is very satisfied with the judgement.

“It was very pathetic, it was Saturday after work, I was driving with my brother-in-law and we were about to enter the house when these young men came from an uncompleted building and attacked us. So I gave them everything and reported the case to the police.” He said.
