The New Patriotic Party in the Bono East Region, has given the green light to all four (4) individuals to pick and file their nomination forms to contest in three (3) constituencies where the party had sitting Members of Parliaments.
The New Patriotic Party after the 2020 elections won three (3) out of the eleven constituencies in the Bono East region, a fate the party seeks to change in this year’s parliamentary elections come December 7, 2024.
The party currently have sitting MPs at the Techiman South Constituency, Kintampo South Constituency and the Pru West Constituency.
It will be recalled that the NPP commenced the vetting of parliamentary hopefuls within constituencies with sitting MPs on January 3rd and ended on January 5th, 2024 across all regional capitals in the country. The Bono East Region held its vetting on Friday 5th January at Techiman where four (4) parliamentary hopefuls, which includes three sitting Members of Parliament and a former DCE for West faced the vetting committee which was chaired by Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen.
After the vetting process, all four parliamentary aspirants of the New Patriotic Party in the Bono East Region were cleared to contest in the January 27th parliamentary primaries in their respective constituencies while indicating that all the four aspirants are eligible to participate in the upcoming exercise.
Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, who is the Member of Parliament for Techiman South Constituency and doubled as the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development went unopposed, the Member of Parliament for Kintampo South, Hon. Alexander Gyan also went unopposed while the NPP Member of Parliament for Pru West, Hon. Stephen Jalulah was opposed by a former District Chief Executive of Pru West, Hon. Mohammed Idi Garba.
Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, was the National representative and chairperson of the vetting committee, lauded all the aspirants for their comportment during the vetting process. He explained that the entire process was very successful and advised them to be focused in helping the party to break the 8.
“It was very successful but I’m advising all of them to put in extra work to ensure the party retains power because the 2024 elections are not all that easy. Members of the party should not relax and think breaking the 8 is an easy task because the NDC is really focused and determined to win power this year.”
“Per what I see, should the NPP break the 8, it will help the party a lot, because breaking the 8 with Dr. Bawumia, will means that, the NDC will have to amess another resources and strategy of which it won’t be easy for them to do.” Lawyer Obiri Boahen said.
He however alleged that the NDC had a plot to change the country’s constitution to allow a President to stay in office for more than four years, a plot he said will be very worrying for the NPP should it come to pass.
“On the other hand, should the NPP lose the elections to NDC, I’m telling you, the NDC have a mindset of changing the constitution to allow a President to stay in office for a longer period which will affect the NPP a lot.” he alleged
Lawyer Obiri Boahen, urged members of the party to approach this year’s general elections with a united front as he believes that is the only way to ensure victory come December 7.
Meanwhile, the Bono East Regional New Patriotic Party Chairperson, Ibrahim Bukari, popularly known as Chairman IB, in an interview with the media disclosed that the party is ready to win more seats in the Bono East Region to ensure victory for the party come December 7.
He further pleaded with the rank and file of the party to support all the parliamentary candidates that the party will represent for the parliamentary elections as he believes that, with unity, the party will be victorious in the Bono East Region and Ghana at large.
“Now all is set for the party to represent its candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections, we first conducted primaries for candidates in the orphan constituencies and it was very successful, we have now conducted a very successful vetting process for candidates in constituencies where we have sitting MPs. Aside from Pru West, all our incumbent MPs went unopposed and that is a very good sign for us.” He said.
Chairman IB continued, “we know have to ensure that we win more seats in the Bono East Region and I believe I and my executives have what it takes to win the seats for the party but nevertheless, we will asked our supporters to support all those that the party will represent for the parliamentary elections because we know that our candidates have it takes to win us more seats”
